Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Sparks Intense Discussions Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, the game developers launched a new game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but features several notable adjustments:

  • Each team has only eight human participants, with the rest filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities done by real players grant full XP, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
  • Just a pair of maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Features like Player tags, achievements, and stat tracking are disabled.

So essentially, the playlist delivers on its name: it's a casual take of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume it's a good idea, as it gives additional choices for gamers seeking alternative ways to enjoy the title. But, gaming history has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many BF6 players are mad.

Player Responses: Anger to Praise

"People want real players. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking idea," comments a different user. At the same time, in community forums, one user notes, "I have no idea where we are going with this title," while another lists everything they consider to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

However, amid the criticism, some gamers sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "The community fails to see that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this title all the time. Let them find a middle ground," adds another. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Valid Criticisms and Community Feedback

All that said, players have constructive reasons to criticize Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it could increase wait times more extended for different playlists because of the sheer number of options currently available. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of real players, even though it primarily centers on combat against bots.

Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that got canned when they attempted to remove bot farms from the system. Thus this new playlist feels like the player base compromising halfway, as per forum feedback. A different user labels this addition as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?

Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something so far with the latest installment, it is that they're listening and acting on feedback. Tasks being too difficult got fixed very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics indicates this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
