England Coach Southee Uncertain on Ashes Participation

The bowler's most recent Test match for the Kiwis was against the English side in the final month of 2024.

England fast-bowling advisor Tim Southee is currently evaluating what his involvement will be at the forthcoming Ashes contest in the host nation.

The ex- Kiwi seamer is expected to be present for the first Test because of his participation in the ILT20 competition, which starts on 2 December in the United Arab Emirates.

Southee, 36, assumed a position as the English team's fast bowling consultant in the summer after claiming 391 wickets in 107 Tests for New Zealand.

Speaking as the English team for the opening of three T20 matches against New Zealand was named, Southee said of his participation: "We're still working through the situation at the moment.

"We'll see what happens over the next little while."

English bowling legend Broad had declared the Australian side as their "worst team since 2010", but the consultant was in little doubt over what to expect during the series, which begins on 21 November.

"In my view there's at any time a poor Australian cricket team," Southee said.

"The team's attention is squarely on what we're trying to do. I think the quality of [the English] team that's heading out to Australia is brilliant.

"It ought to be an thrilling encounter, that series. Not only [are|do] fans from both nations eagerly anticipate it, I believe the entire cricketing community is."

However, before the English team head to the city of Perth for the opening Ashes Test, they take on New Zealand in Christchurch on Saturday.
