The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Discloses He Knows How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... For Now.

Vince Gilligan did not foresee that his new science-fiction series would turn into a massive hit. “The viewers have been incredible,” he remarks. “It was unexpected the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

With the first season of the hit sci-fi show reaching its finale—and Season 2 officially in the works—the creative team reflected on the viewer reception and whether it will impact the storyline of Pluribus.

On the Incredible Fan Response

Anyone might to get sidetracked by the constant speculation and fan theories surrounding Pluribus. He is making a conscious effort to ignore the noise.

“It's like being an endless supply of your favorite dessert and being laughing uncontrollably,” he explains. “It's wonderful, but I hear about it from others, and that's intentional. I have never looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever plan to. Not because I don't care. It's a deep trap I know I would get lost in and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from the hardware store and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

In spite of trying to stay away, there’s no escaping the immensely favorable response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to accept it graciously and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“It is not our goal to change the plot,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not changed by online forums.”

“Better to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan adds.

A Pressing Query: Does the showrunner See the Conclusion of Pluribus?

Given that the writers are not listening by fan response, does it imply they already know how Pluribus will ultimately end? Essentially yes… in a way.

“We've developed some interesting ideas about the ultimate destination,” Gilligan says. “but we are always ready to discard a decent plan for a better idea. That has held us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we find a more perfect path and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

On the other hand, if they hit a wall, director and writer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to fall back on.

“I constantly suggest that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and the characters are inside it,” he says humorously, “but no one is buying it.”

Of course, one could always use the iconic TV endings?

“My dream is Carol to awaken beside Bob Newhart,” he jokes.

Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV.
