The Gory Animated Film Ending That Stays With Audiences

Among every adult-oriented animated films I have personally watched, no other has stuck with me quite like the fear-filled ending of the graphically gory as well as highly provocative film from 2022 The Unicorn Wars.

Back in the year 2015, this Spain-based filmmaker developed a dark, bleak , often savage universe with several minor , forlorn hints of optimism.

While The Unicorn Wars feels like it came from a drive to push animation even more, the filmmaker explained that it was rather a try to communicate a global, multicultural theme regarding “the mutual source of all wars.”

That message is communicated through a group of colorful pastel bears , clearly modeled after a famous line of lovable characters.

Growing up in a community centered on militarism as well as the war machine, numerous these animals are consumed by exterminating unicorns, due to a religious scripture that tells the bears they used to be kings of the forest, before these creatures forced them out.

Some haven’t fully bought into the indoctrination, and prefer to try out drugs or fornicate outdoors.

In contrast to their friendly equivalents, these bright beings show genitals and obvious urges.

For a particular particularly cruel, skeptical animal, the character Bluey, the battle against the unicorns becomes a route to power — and specifically to authority over his softer, more compassionate sibling the character Tubby.

Bluey behaves aggressively , an apparent psychopath , and when horror dominates his group and takes his comrades individually, he seizes increasingly influence on his own behalf, via progressively violent, harmful methods.

At the same time, the horned creatures are experiencing their own terror, in the form of a growing, deadly beast in their habitat.

“At the beginning, it feels like a comedy,” the director said. “But then it turns into a more dramatic and sad movie. And by the end, it’s a terrifying movie.”

Unicorn Wars starts out similar to one of the most whimsical movies by an iconic animator, that uncover a naughty glee in permitting animated figures curse, engage in violence, or have intimate relations.

Then it evolves into something more like a more grim work from the same artist, with increasingly graphic violence , a tangible connection to the actual tragedy of battle.

Ultimately, it’s a full-on theatrical horror carnage.

The terror which makes this an ideal spooky-season movie kicks in a lot earlier than that description suggests.

Unicorn Wars is one for the devoted gorehounds, for fans of intense movies who want to see a film they’ve never watched previously, and who can handle a plot that pulls unflinching brutality.

See it with the lights off with no disturbances, and the finale will dig under your skin and stay with you.
