The Two Fatalities Identified in the Ivy League School Shooting as Law Enforcement Persist in Hunt for Gunman.

Both young individuals who lost their lives in the recent tragic incident at Brown University were honored at the start of the week – as a manhunt for their shooter continued following the freeing by authorities in Rhode Island of the single suspect questioned in the case.

Tributes for Ella Cook

The student Ella Cook, a second-year student from Alabama, was called “an incredible, grounded, faithful, bright light”, per the Advent Cathedral in Birmingham, which offered condolences for her at a gathering on Sunday.

Her role included vice-president of Brown’s branch of the campus GOP group, the group said. The White House press secretary also shared words of sorrow on social media, saying in part: “Words cannot express. Thinking of her kin and peers, above all her mom and dad.”

An International Student

The second fatality was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, from Uzbekistan in his freshman year at the prestigious university, family members said.

The victim's identification was verified by the foreign office of Uzbekistan.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. His ambitions were lofty of pursuing a career in neurosurgery and helping people,” his sibling Samira said in a memorial statement.

Details of the Attack

Nine more persons were wounded in Saturday’s attack in the school of engineering of Brown’s grounds in Providence, during the university's examination week.

Officials stated late Sunday that a man aged 24 detained in a police operation at a lodging about 17 miles from the scene earlier in the day was released from custody.

“There is a killer at large,” declared Rhode Island’s attorney general, Peter Neronha.

He continued, “Investigations can lead one way, and then you need to change course and head another way, and that is the current situation over the last day or so.”

Ongoing Concerns

Brett Smiley, Brett Smiley, acknowledged: “We know that this is likely to cause new worry for our public”.

The assailant opened fire inside a room in the engineering facility on Saturday, shooting over four dozen bullets from a 9mm handgun, a police source reported to the news agency.

Law enforcement that raided the lodging found two firearms and two loaded 30-round magazines when the person of interest was arrested, according to reports.

The Wounded Victims

Among those wounded, a single scholar was discharged from care, stated the university president, Christina Paxson. Seven others were in grave but unchanging health, and one remained in critical care, police said on Sunday.

An educational institution, a private K-12 school in North Carolina, said a recent graduate, Kendall Turner, was among those critically wounded.

Additional Memorials

Cook was remembered at a memorial in Birmingham on Sunday. A clergyman said, “She was an incredible, grounded, faithful bright light not only here growing up... but at Brown University she was a radiant presence in that specific location as well.”

The president of College Republicans, Martin Bertao, released remarks from the group. “Ella was recognized for her fearless, heroic, and gentle spirit as she served her chapter and fellow classmates,” he said.

Jonathan Henick, Jonathan Henick, said he was “deeply saddened” by the student's death in a tribute. “We offer our heartfelt sympathies to Mr Umurzokov’s family, loved ones, and peers and mourn the loss of his potential.”

The fatal shooting at Brown, the country's seventh most historic university with about thousands of bachelor's and postgraduate students, occurred during one of at least 392 mass shootings recorded nationally so far in this year, according to statistics. That Monday marked the 349th day of the year.
