Alina Habba has resigned as the US Attorney for New Jersey. This decision was prompted by a judicial decision that questioned her eligibility to hold the office.

Official Departure

The head of the Justice Department, the Attorney General, confirmed the prosecutor's departure on Monday. Bondi stated that the appeals court finding made it impossible for Habba to lead the department effectively.

"But do not mistake adherence to the ruling as defeat," she wrote. "My fight will now reach across the country."

Habba's exit comes a week after a judicial panel ruled that she had been acting without proper authority as the federal prosecutor. This judgment is expected to impact scores of prosecutions in the state.

On a social media platform, the Attorney General wrote that judges "should not be able to countermand the executive's selection of attorneys responsible for carrying out the primary duty of the administration of criminal prosecution."
